The officer, preparing to leave, looked down and saw the fallen device. His eyes narrowed in recognition, a flash of understanding crossing his face. He picked it up, examining it closely, his mind full of implications. Yet he chose to remain silent, pondering the best course of action. He knew that revealing his recognition could frighten Ava even more.

Ava walked away, her back to the officer and the car, oblivious to the discovery he had just made. The officer watched her figure retreat, the device now held firmly in her hand. He was torn between calling her and telling her what he had found or keeping the discovery to himself. After a moment’s hesitation, he decided to put the device in his pocket, opting to investigate further before revealing anything.
