Left alone in his car, the policeman looked at the spot where Ava had been, a multitude of questions swirling in his mind. Why was she so nervous? What was the meaning of that device? His duty as an officer pushed him to find answers, but he also felt a responsibility to protect the frightened young woman he had just helped.

Oppressed by fear
As she entered her home, the walls seemed to close in on Ava. The weight of her secret, now even more oppressive without the device in her pocket, was unbearable. She found her mother in the kitchen and, with a shaky voice, began to tell her what had happened during the day. The fear and confusion she had suppressed burst out, her words running over each other, mixed with the urgency of someone who needed to get something off her chest.
