Unconditional love
I assured her of my unconditional love and willingness to help. “Michael, we’re family. Whatever happens, I’ll always be by your side,” I said, shaking his hand. Together, we’ll get through this. His eyes softened, a gleam of relief shining in them. “Thank you, Mom. I really needed to hear that,” he confessed. That simple moment broke a small crack in the wall that had stood between us, and for the first time in months, hope came over me.

Organizing a family meeting
With the atmosphere calming down somewhat, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and organize a family meeting to address financial aid and find a way to bring my grandchildren closer together. “We need to have a family dinner, get everything out in the open,” I suggested. Michael agreed, though hesitantly at first. “Maybe that’s a good idea,” he replied, and I took that as a positive sign. Repairing the broken communication between us seemed like the first step in healing our strained relationship.
