Hearing a whimper
A faint whimper broke the silence, and Jake’s heart leapt with hope. The sound was quiet but unmistakable. “Buddy?” he whispered, his voice barely audible. He couldn’t be certain it was him, but he had to follow it. Quickening his pace, he strained to hear the noise again, each step driven by urgency.
