“Ah!” he cried out, yanking his hand from the water. Something sharp, attached to the dog’s leg, had pierced his skin, sending a jolt of pain shooting through him. His hand throbbed as he waved it frantically, desperate for relief, before plunging it into the icy snow on the riverbank. When he finally examined it, his hand was flushed red, the skin beginning to swell noticeably.
