Jake pulled off his hat and slipped his hand inside, improvising it as a makeshift glove. Without hesitation, he plunged his hand into the water, grasping whatever had latched onto the dog’s leg. He knew it would cause the dog pain, but there was no other choice. In one swift motion, he tore the object free. The dog let out a piercing scream but, fueled by adrenaline, leapt out of the water and bolted to safety.

Suddenly, the creature clinging to the dog sprang to life, thrashing wildly and sending water splashing into Jake’s face while dragging him under. He wanted to let go, but it felt as though the creature had latched onto his hands with an iron grip. Thankfully, Jake managed to slip his hands out of his hat and scrambled out of the water as fast as he could.
