Preparations
The morning started as it typically did. The two were in the bedroom getting ready for their trip to town. Mary looked into the mirror as she put on her trademark red lipstick. Even after all those decades together, she still put on fancy clothes for Walter. Once his wife was done with her preparations, he waited for her to arrive at his truck with patience. The widely frequented breakfast venue was reached in just ten minutes. They both anticipated that nothing out of the ordinary would occur.

Walter’s rearview mirror would flicker with a blue light on Saturday mornings when they weren’t accustomed to it. As he came to the realization of what was going on, the patrol car was immediately behind him. Despite being pulled over, Walter believed he hadn’t committed any wrongdoing. After he had stopped on the roadside, he didn’t know what was ahead of him.
