Emma’s hesitation
“I… I can’t tell you,” whispered Emma, in a voice so soft it was barely audible, each word laden with fear, which deeply touched Mark and Lisa. The worried look they exchanged indicated that they were about to discover something important; their daughter’s reluctance to speak revealed more than any words could express. They felt, with a mixture of anxiety and hope, that a hidden truth was approaching.

Mark leaned forward, his voice firm but gentle. “Emma, we just want to help you,” he said, trying to get to the heart of his daughter’s difficulties.
