Elara took up the phone and called her best friend, Marissa. ‘I need your help,’ she stated calmly. ‘I cannot do this alone.’ Marissa did not hesitate. Of course, I will handle everything. You concentrate on becoming better,’ she responded. Elara felt an outpouring of appreciation. With Marissa by her side, she believed she could weather the storm and emerge stronger.

When Elara was eventually released from the hospital, she returned to an empty house. She strolled around the rooms, seeing that most of their belongings had vanished. Caden had taken everything. She found his letter on the kitchen counter: “Moved in with Liora.” This is for the best.’ Her wrath boiled over, but she realized she needed to concentrate on her recovery.
