Feeling Uneasy Alone
My spouse had already left for work, so the home felt weirdly quiet while I worked. The unease I felt when I saw the doll lingered. Had I forgotten to put it back? I pondered. Perhaps she sneaked in and took it when I wasn’t looking? These thoughts bounced around in my head, causing little waves of uneasiness. I made a mental point to ask her about it later, not sure why it made me so nervous.

Feeling Uneasy Alone
Asking the Important Question
I eventually turned to our kid, my curiosity taking over. “Did you put your doll on the kitchen table, sweetheart?” I asked casually, attempting to sound indifferent. She shook her head, her eyes bright and innocent. “No, mommy. “I haven’t played with it since yesterday,” she said firmly. Her statement puzzled me and made me more apprehensive. It seems like the mystery of the doll’s voyage was only beginning, leaving me with more questions than answers.
