What They Saw Down There
You must be curious to hear what they discovered. The workers saw that there was a granite block in the ground. All right. We know that does not sound all that exciting, but just you wait. You see, this was actually the cornerstone of the monument! There was much more to it than meets the eye.
Excitement All Around
On the other hand, Lance Humphries was thrilled when he learned about this. He works as the executive director of the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy. It is a non-profit organization that aims to preserve the historic landmarks in the region. Humphries explained what made him so happy about it. He said, “It’s well known that they laid a cornerstone, but they never actually mentioned where the cornerstone was actually placed in the building. So, it’s pretty neat to have found it.”
