Lory Del Santo
In October 1985, Clapton did perform a handful of performances in Milan, Italy. The guitarist met and supposedly fell in love with Lory Del Santo, an Italian woman, while he was there. They didn’t seem to mind that he was married, and they apparently began an affair. The pregnancy that occurred from this romance broke Boyd’s heart for a multitude of reasons.

Boyd Was Devastated
Boyd, you see, has been having fertility issues. Boyd and Clapton had even tried to have a child at an IVF clinic, but had been unsuccessful. Boyd appeared to be having miscarriage after miscarriage. When Clapton told Boyd that Del Santo was having a child, she was understandably heartbroken. According to Clapton’s biographer Philip Norman, she felt “like [her] heart was about to disintegrate.”
