Attending school events
Julian began visiting children’s school functions, standing in the back and trying not to be invasive. He observed them with pride, clapping heartily for their accomplishments. “Hey, you’re Julian, right?” a parent inquired at a school gathering. Julian nodded, giving a courteous smile. He gradually developed a rapport with the other parents and teachers. His presence was acknowledged, yet he remained focused completely on his children. It was a slow and steady process.

Initially skeptical of Julian’s sudden participation, the children eventually came to welcome his presence. He went to their games, clapping the loudest, and showed up at school meetings, listening closely. “Who’s that man?” one of their friends said. “That’s…our dad,” was the dubious reply. Julian’s efforts were paying off day by day. Small conversations grew into larger conversations, and the ice began to thaw, leaving behind cautious curiosity and timid warmth.
