Something had changed in the bathroom.
Once the window was closed, Sandra dared to open the bathroom door and Missy immediately jumped into the sink to sniff the drain. Sandra immediately noticed that something had changed in the room, as Missy was unusually excited and was sniffing the drain more intensely than ever. Sandra wondered what Missy was so excited about. Was it a new smell on the wind? Or something that had been waiting in the gutter for years? Or something a previous tenant had placed? Or something introduced by a pest? Or something that got there because of a plumbing problem? Did a previous tenant’s pet put it there? Sandra was curious about the smell Missy was picking up, but also a little worried.

The smell was faint, but clearly the same as in the morning on the street. Even at home, it was still perceptible. When she came out of the sink, it was clear that something was wrong with the sewage, but this was no ordinary sewage smell, it was something else. Sandra began to worry after hearing of people who had fallen ill from sewer odors. She decided to call the plumber to check and planned to contact the city for more information. She was determined to find the cause. She had to make sure the smell wasn’t causing health problems for her and Missy. But where was it coming from and what could it be?
