Her daughter said that she died of cancer at the age of 84 after being hospitalized in March 2020. During the pandemic, Trebek claimed he spent his last year of existence performing tiny house projects because he was too stubborn to retire. At age 80, his daughters and a small crowd of friends embraced him as he died. Trebek wrote of his heritage memoir expectations. “First of all, I’d like to be remembered as a good and loving husband and father, and also as a decent man who did his best to help people do their best,” he said.
