What are you meant to do on a “renovate and sell your house” show if you are not really thinking of selling the house until one more year at the very least? This did not seem to bother HGTV. The truth is that the open houses on the show are staged and filmed with the help of friends and family posing as potential buyers. Aside from that, the producers also ask guests to shoot several endings for different scenarios. The repairs are not the best either, but the sloppy work is concealed by careful camerawork.
