He and his siblings (he has seven of them including his twin) grew up in Corduff Blanchardstown, Dublin. At age 16, he began modeling and appeared in all kinds of ads, landing a contract with Storm Model Management. Thanks to his modeling, he was recruited for the band when he was spotted.
