In reality, a lot of the characters in the film were just random people walking by, like the reporter who was a tourist visiting Washington, DC with his wife. The producers saw him walking by with his family and gave him the lines to read. It was a quick process and this guy probably didn’t expect the movie to become the sensation that it is!

The props used in the film have been on the market for thousands of dollars. In 2013, this bench where Gump launched he “Life is like a box of chocolates,” was auctioned for $25,000 and may even increase.
