You Were Never Really Here
This film tracks the life of a hitman who was hired by a senator to rescue his daughter from great dangers, which is played by Joaquin Phoenix. This may seem like a very familiar plot, but what makes it better than anything else is the execution and character motivation. In the best way possible, Phoenix does an incredible job of balancing multiple types of personalities.

This 1630s movie is about a father and his family who have all been banished from a community in Puritan Plymouth and are trying to go out on their own to start a farm in a forest. When a family member disappears from nowhere while trying to find him, the family has many problems ahead. The director, Robert Eggers, spent four years researching to make the film as real as it might be.
