Conducting Simulations
Asteroid impacts in areas like New York City have been simulated by Johnson and his team to gauge preparedness and identify what resources would be needed to mitigate the damage. This makes a lot of sense because some asteroids larger than three football fields have passed dangerously close to Earth.
Crater Sites
In addition, the team visits crater sites all over the world in order to study the effects of asteroid impacts on the surrounding environment. Looking at that devastation, it is not hard to see why NASA’s overall mission statement specifically includes the work Johnson and his team do.
