While we are all aware that the Mongol Empire was massive, this map shows just how massive it was. It lasted from the 13th through the 14th century and is still regarded as the world’s biggest empire. The empire’s extent in 1279 is depicted on this map. At its peak, the empire covered nine million square miles.

Lithuania designed possibly the most creative concept ever devised to persuade visitors to visit: a map of the country entirely made of magnets – but each magnet is only available in specific cities.
