An Underground City

We are blown away by the level of detail that went to planning the resort. This also applies to what lies underneath it. The Magic Kingdom was built above a series of tunnels that has been called an “underground city” by Thrillist. Despite this, they are actually built at ground level. Florida rests on the sea level, which is the reason the engineers had to construct them that way. Since it was impossible to conceal the tunnels under the ground, they did the next best thing instead.

The Utilidors

The tunnels they use for the Magic Kingdom are called “Utilidors.” This is where the cast members take their breaks and get their costumes. This complex tunnel system was allegedly the brainchild of Disney himself. He came up so that the characters would not have to go across the park before and after work.
