24. Keanu Reeves
Project: The Devil’s Advocate
Proposed Salary: $15 million*
Outcome: Agreed to a $2 million pay cut to work with Al Pacino*
In comparison to the other salary disputes on this list, this one is a little more complicated. To work with Al Pacino in this particular instance, beloved actor Keanu Reeves agreed to accept a wage cut from his previous employer. Because of his efforts, the company secured the legendary actor’s participation in Devil’s Advocate, which also featured Charlize Theron.
Reeves was eager to collaborate with Pacino, and he was willing to forego a few million dollars to do so. He accepted the studio’s offer, and the resulting picture, released in 1997, became a worldwide phenomenon. It grossed $153 million at the box office, despite having a $57 million production budget.
25. Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Sierra Capri, and Diego Tinoco
Project: On My Block
Proposed Salary: $65,000 per episode*
Outcome: Agreed
On My Block cast are Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Sierra Capri, and Diego Tinoco, who play a group of teenagers. The co-stars of the popular Netflix series OMB have received significant pay hikes ahead of the show’s third season. For the first two seasons, the actors and actresses were paid only $20,000 per episode.
With Netflix’s agreement to pay them $65,000 per episode for a ten-episode season, they earned more than treble their previous earnings in the third season. Based on reports from Hollywood Reporter, the arrangement was only for the third season, which means that, based upon the success of season three, the On My Block stars may be able to request a rise for future seasons.
