5. Rob Lowe
Project: The West Wing
Proposed Salary: $300,000*
Outcome: Denied, Lowe left
The West Wing was an Emmy-nominated television series that followed the ins and outs of the White House. Rob Lowe appeared in multiple seasons of the well-known political drama. Still, the veteran actor decided to leave when he realized that his role on the show had been curtailed.
Lowe was disappointed with the fact that he did not receive a raise, so he quit. He was also dissatisfied that his co-stars were earning $300,000 per episode, while he was only receiving cheques totaling $75,000 per episode. The official statement stated that the decision had been reached through “mutual agreement.” In some senses, it had: Lowe’s request had been denied by the network, and he was allowed to go without their complaining.
