60. Hugh Jackman
Project: Logan
Proposed Salary: Unknown, but offered a pay cut to secure an R-rating
Outcome: Agreed to the pay cut Logan was a gritty superhero film unlike anything else produced by the M.C.U. Hugh Jackman reprised his role as Wolverine in this picture, which grossed $619 million at the box office. According to Logan director James Mangold, Jackman agreed to take a wage cut in order for the film to be classified R. For his final project, Jackman intended to make an R-rated Wolverine film, no doubt inspired by the success of Deadpool, which was R-rated and broke multiple box office records. The extra funds, according to Mangold and Jackman, allowed them to craft a “aggressive, traditional” action film.
61. Jack Black
Project: Pick of Destiny
Proposed Salary: $500,000*
Outcome: Agreed Jack Black’s passion project was The Pick of Destiny. It starred Jack Black and Kyle Gass as two musicians on a mission to discover a guitar pick with magical abilities. Despite the fact that the film was a box office disappointment, Black wrote, produced, and starred in the musical fantasy. Black had to take a wage reduction to make The Pick of Destiny. He would normally be paid $12 million every film, but he declined and instead split a $1 million cheque with Kyle Gass. He also received a ten percent backend contract, but that was negligible due to the film’s low box office take.
