Lauren Cheney — Jrue Holiday
During his collegiate years, Cheney was a standout athlete. She was a key member of the U.C.L.A. soccer squad. Lauren and Jrue met because they are both U.C.L.A. student-athletes. Cheney and Holiday each competed in two World Cups and two Olympic Games for the United States. Lauren holds the distinction of being the first player in the National Women’s Soccer League’s history to have her jersey retired. She achieved numerous school records at U.C.L.A., including scoring the most points, scoring the most game-winning goals, and tying for the most goals. Unfortunately, when pregnant with her baby, Cheney was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016. Holiday had to miss most of the 2016 season after giving birth to his wife because she needed her tumor removed. Thankfully, the malignancy was effectively eliminated.
