How would you feel when you discover a box full of male and female ventriloquist dolls when you move houses? There were assembled ones, although certain dummies were partly broken as well. The movers said that these things made for a “pretty unsettling” day at the job.

In 1502, Leonardo da Vinci was hired by an Italian statesman to make a painting that shows the Battle of Anghiari. In the 1550s, a different painter called Giorgio Vasari got commissioned to work over it but could not bring himself to do it. The theory goes that a false wall had to be installed to prevent the destruction of the original mural.
