Welcome To The World
For Dr. Paula Mahone of the Iowa Methodist Medical Center to handle the world’s first case of septuplets, it must be an exciting and challenging experience. Given the risks and consequences of pregnancy and birth, it is still successful! It seems that every septuplet weighed between 2.5 and 3.4 pounds, but not all children were born healthy. Two of McCaughey’s septuplets have developmental issues affecting their motor skills. The other children had only minor health issues as they grew older, but nothing more severe than the other two.
Some Of Them Had Health Problems
It is a miracle indeed that all seven children were safely brought into the world, even though they and their mother were at risk. Though not everyone was born healthy. Alexis McCaughey was born with Hypotonic Quadriplegia, a condition that weakens all four limbs. He was born with only around 2 pounds of weight and is second in the order of the babies. Despite the weak muscle tones of her arms, legs, and torso, Alexis was unable to or having a hard time holding positions.
