In fact, it appears that the player has carried it with him throughout the years, as Shaq talked candidly about it all in a radio interview conducted 20 years later. In contrast to Christian Laettner, whom Shaq described as “a little bit more fundamentally sound,” the basketball player acknowledged that “I was jealous,” but he had to “come to the realization” that he “was a more explosive, more powerful player.” Fortunately, things improved for Shaq at the following Olympics as the team won another gold.
