Johnny Cash – $60 million
Greatest Hits: I Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues
Johnny Cash is one of the most popular artists, selling over 90 million records worldwide. He was inducted into Popularity’s Country Music Hall as well as Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Known for hard-edged music. “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash” he opened. Before each gig, he will literally add the showboat to the rock genre (but less so in country music). Cash’s legacy was honored by 20th Century Fox in Walk the Line.
Joni Mitchell – $50 million
Greatest Hits: Woodstock, Big Yellow Taxi
Joni Mitchell’s Blue album is the best. She’s a musician, pianist, artist. She combined folk, pop, jazz, and rock components in her music and started singing in the streets and bars. She was involved in the Baby Boom counterculture, with frequent activism and protests. Her “Big Yellow Taxi” tracks, “Woodstock,” and the two sides, now all issued by Reprise Music, were among her successes. Often noted for adaptability. She adjusted her appearance and sound several times, becoming pop and mechanical.
