Joe Strummer is one of punk rock’s founding figures. He formed The Clash party, inducted into Fame’s Rock and Roll Hall in 2003. The band’s second UK charts album was #2 and their third and fourth albums were successful in the US, being certified platinum. Strummer also played with bands like The Mescaleros, Pgues, Latino Rockabilly, 101ers, etc. He also composed TV and film scores, made radio broadcasts, and became a big artist for Rock Against Racism, an activist organization.

Patti Smith is a songwriter, poet, and musician, and with her pioneering debut album, Horses, she was an influential part of New York City’s punk rock scene in the 1970s. She’s regarded as punk poet laureate, mixing art with punk music. She wrote Bruce Springsteen’s song “Because the Night” and it’s her most popular single. She’s also a writer, earning the 2010 National Book Award with her memoir, entitled Just Men. Often Rolling Stone’s “Greatest Artists.”
