The only female character who appeared in all seasons in the sitcom was Conchata Ferrell. She had been there from season 1 to season 12, although she was not there for every episode. Conchata took on the part of Berta, the housekeeper of the family. She liked the two brothers very much, but she had a complicated relationship with the oldest, Charlie. Her role was supposed to be in season 1 only, but the producers decided to retain her character.
