Going to the movies in the 1980s was difficult without seeing Kathleen Turner. Body Heat, Romancing the Stone, Prizzi’s Honor, The War of the Roses, and Peggy Sue Got Married were all hugely popular films in which she starred. Her seductive voice and smoldering good looks made her an ideal choice for the role of femme fatale in Hollywood. She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress and was nominated for an Academy Award during the decade.

Kathleen Turner has very little control over her transformation from a sex siren to a normal person. In the 1990s, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which caused her excruciating pain and forced her to use a wheelchair. Some people were critical of the drug that was prescribed for her recovery because it caused her to gain weight and bloat. Turner, like so many other female actors, was pushed out of the spotlight, and her acting offers shifted from “star” to “mother” or even “grandmother” as a result. Her arthritis has thankfully improved in recent years, and she has appeared in several guest roles on television shows such as Friends, Nip/Tuck, and Californication. We’re relieved to see her looking and feeling better.
