It’s a family affair

Rachael comes from a huge family, which have been a big inspiration in her life and her choice of recipes. Her mom is Italian, the oldest of 10 children and passed on her work ethic and dedication to Rachael. Her father is half Cajun and she has two siblings, Maria Betar who writes recipes for her website and Manny. She was also immensely influenced by her grandfather and credits him for her love of food and her first word: “vino” Italian for wine. She once said “He used to put a little wine diluted with water in her baby bottle when she got fussy.”

Her Parents Were In The Restaurant Biz

Although Rachael wasn’t professionally a trained chef, she have some professional training through growing up working in her parents’ restaurants. Rachael’s parents ran The Carvery in multiple locations and she said her and her siblings “did every crap job there was — dishwasher, busgirl.” She added how it was that experience, as well as watching her mom cook at home, that led her to where she is today.
