Team Manager
If you want to be involved with the team, this includes coaches and players alike, then be prepared to some dirty work. (No, nothing like picking up people’s trash). The role of a team manager is to ensure that everything is set up for the players before they show up to practice. You do a lot of things so that the coaches don’t have to, such as setting up the yard markers and pylons, open up the equipment shed, obviously unlock the gates – it’s a job where you show up first and leave last. It can be tough and not have much recognition but it’s as close as you’ll get to having an impact on the team.
Play by Play/PA Announcer
Calling all major sports fans, this would be the best job in the entire world. Doesn’t even matter if you never get to be like the guys from ESPN, you’re still a part of calling play-by-play action, announcing the starting lineups and doing the introductions. That’s pretty wild. Normally, only really small schools have programs like this and if you’re one of the few chosen, well those are memories that will last a lifetime.
