During the 60’s, Sonny and Cher cemented their reputation as a “flower power” duo. Of course their clothes, hairdo’s, and makeup only helped hammer the point home. However as American pop culture quickly changes, the duo lost their charm and appeal to their young audience. Specifically because it was now the rise of the sexual revolution and drug culture and that so wasn’t Sonny and Cher.
I Got You, Babe
After Sonny and Cher’s song “I Got You Babe” reached the number one slot on both American and British charts, everyone was raving about this new rock duo. Toward the end of 1967, they had actually sold 40 million records worldwide and according to Time magazine, they were rock’s “it” couple.
