1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
Another racing champion that came from the Italian automaker was the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and was built from 1957 to 1961. It was their response to a new racing rule that placed a cap on engine displacement. Cars that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and WSCC Championship were not allowed to have an engine greater than three liters. The style of the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was a Spyder on an FMR layout. It was designed by Farina and assembled in Maranello, Italy. There were only 33 of the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa that was produced and it was why they were expensive at auctions.
1962 Ferrari 250 GTO
Only 36 of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO was ever produced. Giotto Bizzarrini and Sergio Scaglietti designed the vehicle. The Ferrari 250 GTO had a Tip 168/82 Colombo V12 under its hood. The 250 in its name referred to the displacement in the cylinders while the GTO meant Gran Turismo Omologato. The two-door Ferrari 250 GTO was created to rival the DP214, Aston Martin, and the Shelby Cobra, Jaguar E-Type. It had a horsepower of 296 and sold for incredibly hefty prices as time passed by. The highest amount for the Ferrari 250 GTO was $70 million in a private sale.
