This wooden artifact had taken on a lot of damage over the years. For one thing, it was very dirty and desperately needed to be cleaned. This was not the only problem that it had. You see, the backside of the arms of the figure was separating from the crucifix. Originally, they were attached to each other.

The good news is that these are not things that the Da Vinci Restauro team could not solve. They went on to work on the piece, but they experienced a setback. Ramirez had been working on it when she realized something. There was a crack on the surface of the figurine, and there was something inside it!
