A lot of dogs lie on their sides at nap time. However, they do not stay like that for a long time. It means that they will have a longer time standing up and defending themselves in case of trouble, after all. A dog sleeping like this is one without any troubles whatsoever. We cannot think of a pose cuter than the superman pose. After tiring themselves out, dogs like to crash on their belly with their limbs spread out. This only happens when they are truly exhausted. Puppies commonly do this since the pose lets them stand up in no time at all.
