The Professor, with his extensive understanding of plants, always seemed to be the most likely option for figuring out how to get home. Russell Johnson’s casting on Gilligan’s Island seemed like a dream come true – until he continued to be typecast in roles similar to The Professor. Despite the minor setback, Johnson was adamant about establishing a successful acting career. Later in her career, Johnson landed recurring appearances on shows such as Dynasty, Beyond Westworld, and The Jeffersons. Johnson died in 2014 after battling kidney disease.
