Nastia Liukin

Liukin may have been born in Russia, but she became a household name when she competing for team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her parents are former Soviet champion gymnasts but her family moved to the States when Liukin was two years old. She won one gold (five medals in total) in Beijing, winning in the all-around competition. In 2016, she graduated from New York University. Since 2010, Liukin has hosted the yearly gymnastics competition Nastia Liukin Cup.

Michael Phelps

You have to be really good to be considered the greatest Olympian in history. Phelps has won 28 total medals, 23 gold medals, 13 individual gold medals and 16 medals in individual events. Needless to say, these are all Olympic records. He surpassed the seven gold medals Spitz won when Phelps claimed eight in Beijing in 2008. Outside of swimming, he established the Michael Phelps Foundation, which is an organization with multiple programs to help children. Phelps has three children whom he shares with his wife, Nicole.
