Even though they had already been separated before, it was a different matter when they graduated from college. They clearly wanted to remain in the relationship, but it was going to be hard. After all, they planned to attend different schools in different states. Can they handle the long distance? “Right after we graduated from high school, we were pretty hesitant,” she explained to People. “We were like, ‘Do we stay together? Do we try to make it work?’”

Despite this, they did not want the other not to enjoy their college experience. Matt planned to move to Chicago to go to Columbia College. On the other hand, Laura planned to attend Northern Arizona University, which was 1,600 miles away. Still, they were willing to give this arrangement a shot.
