David Robinson: Builds Schools

David Robinson, a former player for the San Antonio Spurs, founded and funds Carver Academy, a non-profit private school for inner-city children. After retiring in 2003, the basketball center pursued his dream of assisting underprivileged children. The school became a public charter school in 2012, and its name was changed to IDEA Carver. David is still very involved, coming to the school almost every day to assist in any way he can.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: U.S. Global Cultural Ambassador

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He went on to become an actor, a basketball coach, and a best-selling author after retiring from the league. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton chose Kareem to be a United States Global Cultural Ambassador. The Presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to him by then-President Barack Obama in 2016.
