20. Steve Whitmire
Project: Sesame Street
Proposed Salary: Unknown
Outcome: Fired and replaced by Matt Vogel
Sesame Street has been a long-running children’s television program for decades. Many people associate the show with happy childhood memories. From behind the scenes, Sesame Street has had its ups and downs, and no actor can better illustrate this than Steve Whitmire, who voiced the character of Kermit the Frog for more than three decades.
The reason for Whitmire’s firing from Disney after twenty-seven years as a voice actor for Kermit was that the company believed he had been “disrespectful,” after he had been “outspoken” about “character concerns” and his remuneration. Disney, on the other hand, had a different perspective on the situation, claiming that Whitmire was fired for engaging in “inappropriate business conduct” that was “unproductive” and “aggressive.”
21. Jaimee Foxworth
Project: Family Matters
Proposed Salary: Unknown
Outcome: Fired after season four
Judy was portrayed by Jaimee Monae Foxworth on Family Matters, and her character was a popular favorite. When Foxworth was sacked, it came as a complete surprise to both fans and co-stars. After a gradual reduction in screen time, Foxworth’s scenes were gradually trimmed until she was no longer a visible presence on the show.
Upon the conclusion of season four, she was no longer part of the Family Matters cast. The show made no further reference to her. Later, it was revealed that Foxworth had been sacked by the network because she had requested a pay hike. Foxworth claimed that the animosity was deep-seated and that she was “not invited at all” to any reunions, which she described as a “slap in the face” for which she had received no “good reason.”
