It turned out that the bank did not have a regular alarm; instead, it had the high-tech silent alarm which alarmed an employee who managed to immediately call 911. That was how their group got caught for the first time.

That was why Walter tried his luck of escaping by running away from the bank as he saw all of his friends being locked up with handcuffs. Genie did not grant his wish this time, though – he got shot by a police officer who immediately put him in handcuffs, as well.
