Mikey and Stacey got to Ubud on August 22, 2018. It is a town in Bali. The two of them planned to check out the upland region of the island by scooter. They rented one, put on their helmets, and started the trip. Things soon went downhill for them. They had only been in Indonesia for seven hours at the time!

Traveling Uphill
As Mikey and Stacey continued to explore the area, they had to go uphill. They must have been riding carefully and slowly since a van ended up passing them. When Mikey spoke to CNN, he recounted, “After it passed, I could see a turn coming up. So I hit the brakes as normal, but the brakes didn’t slow the bike leaving us very little time to make a move and not enough time to negotiate a turn.”
