Raphael Sanzio
This Italian painter/architect is one of the best in history, not just from the High Renaissance. Actually, he is often grouped with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci as masters of their period.
From his ease of composition and clarity of form, experts cannot stop admiring his talents. Turns out that the Italian artist Raphael’s last word was just simply: “Happy.” Could be worse, eh?
Gustav Mahler
Mahler was a Jewish, German-speaking Jew born in Bohemia, which was then part of Austria. Much of his music was banned during the Nazi era, but gained popularity afterwards. His work served as a bridge between the Austro-German 19th century style and more modern styles of the early 20th century.
At the end of his life, Mahler was diagnosed with bacterial endocarditis, which is a disease caused by defective heart valves. Soon after, he fell ill with pneumonia. Yup, the composer Gustav Mahler died in his own be while he was conducting an imaginary orchestra. His last word was just, “Mozart!”
