Bessie Smith
Iconic blues singer that was Bessie Smith was not nicknamed the EMpress of the Blues for nothing. She is the most famous female Blues singer from her period, the 20’s and 30’s. She recorded with some of the world’s most celebrated artists like Louis Armstrong and Coleman Hawkins.
Tragically, the singer died from complications due to a car accident. The famous singer died saying, “I’m going, but I’m going in the name of the Lord.”
Jean-Philippe Rameau
Now, we’ve landed on the composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. He was perhaps, the most famous French composer and music theorist for the entire 18th century. Not too bad, right?
Turns out that he actually objected to a song that was sung at his bedside. He last said, “What the devil do you mean to sing to me, priest? You are out of tune.”
