His Bands
After leaving the Yardbirds, the rocker joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Clapton subsequently went on to join Cream, a band that specialized in improvised blues and “arty pop,” followed by Blind Faith in 1969 and a solo career that included work with Derek and the Dominoes. While with this last group, Clapton co-wrote the hit song “Layla.”
His Friendship With George Harrison
By the late 1960s, however, Clapton had become friends with George Harrison of the Beatles. Clapton even played a guitar solo on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from the Beatles’ 1968 album “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Later that year, Clapton appeared on Harrison’s first solo album, an experience the guitarist would repeat multiple times.
