How He Met Boyd
Clapton met Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd, through his connection with Harrison, with whom he apparently formed a burning passion. For a while, Clapton began seeing her sister Paula in an attempt to assuage her apparent lust. Clapton’s irrational affections for Boyd appear to have impacted the song “Layla,” while Boyd first disregarded him, resulting in devastating results for the guitarist.
Ending His Addiction
After all, the actor is said to have gone into seclusion for a few years, succumbing to his heroin and alcohol addictions, both of which would later become major aspects of his life. Clapton didn’t record or play until 1971 when Harrison organized a benefit concert in New York for Bangladesh. Clapton is said to have struggled to stay on his feet for the entirety of his performance. Clapton, on the other hand, held a return concert in January 1973, and it appears that rehearsing for it aided him in his recovery from addiction.
